Jordaan - leopard

Jordaan - leopard

Jordaan Male was named after the area he traversed in, namely, Jordaan's Dam when he was first spotted in the Sabi Sands. This mysterious male is also referred to as Yambilu-Jordaan because of the heart shape on his forehead (Yambilu being Shangaan for heart).

His age is estimated to be between 6 - 8 yrs. To date there are no verified reports of the possible siblings or parentage.

Some distinguishing features is his size, which is described as very large, his lighter coloured coat and a protruding forehead. He also holds his tail in the form of a question mark.

He is very skittish and unfortunately not seen very often.

Recently (June 2009) he was spotted interacting with Induna and Mixo. These young males are brothers and litter mates from Karula's second litter. This incident was interesting in that Karula was in seeing distance, relaxed and Jordaan's Male didn't display any aggression towards the 8 month old cubs. This has led to speculation of Jordaan's Male being the father to Mixo and Induna.

Hopefully with more sightings and "eyes" we can add to this information.
