Why are there adverts at all?
WildEarth.TV and all the producers that bring these LIVE wildlife broadcasts to you are funded by advertising. Other funding mechanisms like pay per view, subscription and donations have been tried and all were unsuccessful for various reasons. On the Internet the broadcaster pays for each stream to each viewer, and the longer that each viewer watches, the more the broadcaster pays. Therefore the better quality the stream that the broadcaster produces, the greater the cost of serving that stream because more people are watching for longer. That is why WE have to serve an overlay ad (display ad at the bottom of the video) every 60 seconds. WE could serve a pre roll ad at the beginning of each stream, but we have found that this is very unappealing to our viewers and also does not provide a revenue for the duration of the viewed stream. Overlay ads are the least disturbing of all in-stream ad types because they do not take the LIVE video away from you. In other words you can continue watching the video while the ad displays, you can even minimise the ad to reduce the impact further. WE do not sell our ad inventory directly to the advertisers, this is handled by a number of Ad Networks like: Scanscout, Adotube and Google. WE in turn serve the ads from these various networks without pre approving each ad, and often (usually) the advertiser does not even know that their ad is being served on our video. This is the way the industry works, and allows each cog in the engine to do what it does best. Sometimes ads slip through that are either innapropriate (e.g. hunting, adult, gambling, etc.) for a family oriented wildlife broadcaster such as WE. Or sometimes an ad will not work correctly, for example it might automatically launch a pop up even when you did not click it. Whatever the problem is WE would like you to tell us about it. The best way to do that is to send an email to complain@wildearth.tv preferably with a screen grab of the offending ad or at least the URL that the ad is pointing to. (Without this info its almost impossible for us to track it down.) Please do not write to us just complaining that there are ads at all. WE know that you would prefer that there were no ads at all, but as explained above there really is no alternative. |
Who to contact
WE want you to get the kind of support and help that you need. WE are a company that prides ourselves on our ability to listen, improve and change. Therefore WE want you to know who to contact for any issues, complaints, suggestions or queries that you may have.
